Microsoft is on a slow march towards a unified mobile, tablet, and desktop platform, and soon they’ll release their new version of Skype that works everywhere. And remember the Foursquare spinoff Swarm? It has some new features. No flipping!
- In the next few weeks Microsoft will release a preview of the new universal version of Skype designed to work on all Windows 10 platforms. That means a single app will work on your tablet, Windows phone, and normal desktop too. [Skype]
- Swarm has been updated with new user profiles that show more stats about your check-in history. You may recall—actually, you probably don’t recall—that Swarm spun off from Foursquare, which retains the Yelp-like features. [Foursquare via The Verge]
- The Vevo app now has personalized feeds based on your Spotify, Twitter, and YouTube activity, so you can more easily follow your favorite bands. The feature’s launched on Android and will appear on iOS soon. [The Next Web]
- Google is now offering a shortcut to weather info that you can put on your home screen, which brings up weather info in the Google app. Finally, a way to check the weather on your phone without dialing the local weatherman. [Android Authority]
- Google is working on a keyboard for iOS. The Verge is reporting that it’ll have integrated search, gesture-based typing so you can swipe from letter to letter without lifting a finger, and other features related to other Google services. There’s no street date, as it hasn’t actually been announced. [The Verge]
