Today is an Apple day. With the announcement of a new iPhone, iPad, and the release of iOS 9.3, no other tech companies dared release anything significant in the shadow of Cupertino’s glossy gadgets. But wait, there are a few more Apple tidbits.
- Along with iOS 9.3, Apple also released OS X 10.11.4 today, which includes support for Live Photos, iBook syncing, password protected notes, and a fix for that silly bug that prevented Safari from opening Twitter links. You can now also import notes from other apps and sources. [MacStories]
- Amazon is partnering with Comcast to sell internet, TV, and phone service. Why? A most excellent question. There aren’t many reasons why you would go through Amazon instead of dealing with Comcast directly, but Amazon customers will be treated to dedicated customer service. A potentially nice perk. - ICYMI, you’ll need to update your old Kindles if you want them to stay online. If you have a pre-2012 device that’s been offline since October 5th, 2015, you’ll need to dust it off and update it before March 22nd. Otherwise your old device will no longer be able to download Kindle books. (After that, you can still update the device by manually connecting it to your computer.) [Gizmodo]
- Animation software Toonz is going open source. The software has been used by many traditional animation luminaries, from Studio Ghibli to the team behind Futurama, so it’s a great tool for those looking to produce studio-level animation for free. [Toonz via The Next Web]
