As the weather warms and I switch from jeans to my traditional summer muumuu, I always worry that my phone might slip loose from those billowing floral pockets and go astray. Luckily Google is making it a little easier to access your lost phone and even remotely swipe it, if necessary.
- Google has added some new features and controls to its My Account hub, where you can manage security and privacy settings for your accounts. Now you can use the page to find your phone if it goes missing, and you’ll soon be able to just Google “I lost my phone” to access the feature. Previously you would have needed to use the Android Device Manager to locate or remotely wipe your lost device. iOS users can use it too—but it actually just directs you to iCloud. [Google]
- More diverse emoji are coming to Facebook Messenger. Starting today you’ll be able to pick from five skin tones and many of the emojis depicting professionals (like police officer and surfer) are now available as women. Here’s to you, tiny professional surfer lady. :raised_hands::thumbsup::clap: [Facebook]
- Google’s Now On Tap got some new features today too. You can now use images as search terms and select the exact text you want it to search for (handy if you want to use it as a system-wide dictionary). The image integration is cool too—you can actually just point your camera at something like the Bay Bridge, and without even taking a photo, Now On Tap can recognize and search for it. Last year we said that Now On Tap is cool but not that useful, so it’s good to know they’re working it. [Google via The Next Web]
- WWDC, Apple’s developer conference, is taking place June 13th-17th, with a keynote address at 10AM PT on the 13th. Apple is expected to show the latest versions of their software, including a Siri SDK to open the virtual assistant to third-party integrations. About a month ago the dates were (accidentally?) announced through Siri, which perhaps was not a coincidence. [9to5Mac]
