I love the smell of Amazon-branded breakfast cereal in the morning. The web giant is looking to expand their line of essential household items to include food, among other things.
- Amazon will soon be selling their own brand of snacks and other household items like diapers and detergents. Similar to the cheap “AmazonBasics” USB cables you might’ve bought a dozen of, the new items will be simple and presumably low-priced. They’ll have brands of their own, though, with names like “Happy Belly” and “Mama Bear,” reports the Wall Street Journal. Tell me more about the snacks. [WSJ]
- Apple released updates for pretty much every OS today, including iOS 9.3.2, OS X 10.11.5, and tvOS 9.2.1. The updates are primarily to address bugs so you won’t notice any new features, but hey, I’ll take bug fixes. They’re also some new design tweaks to iTunes that will make navigating your media a little easier. [9to5Mac]
- Twitter will soon stop counting photos and links in the 140 character limit, freeing up 23 more characters for your message. If you frequently attach both images and links the character constraint does get pretty tight, so I’m happy for the change. Old-school Twitter traditionalists be damned. [Bloomberg]
- Twitter is also adding a dedicated button in their Android app to launch Periscope. They’re currently testing with just a small number of users to bolster use of the live broadcasting app. Of course Facebook has the advantage of not needing a second app to broadcast live video, so I wonder if Twitter will eventually just bake the feature into its default app. [The Verge]
- Waze is testing a new carpooling service in the Bay Area. It’s currently invitation-only with a small number of companies and their employees, but could eventually put Waze (and its owner Google) in direct competition with Uber and Lyft. [Waze via Recode]
