Hey all, to celebrate my return, I'm going to post another of my study methods. It's not exactly a deep dark secret, but it's a common sense thing that people tend to forget I think.
FLASHCARDS
I spoke of them briefly in one of my other study method threads, but I've since slightly expanded my use of Flashcard Software.
Flash cards are awesome for drilling yourself or having other people drill you (in the questioning sense, not the sexual sense PERVES!...although does adding that disclaimer make me a perve? Hmm... ).
They can help you record massive amounts of information, especially when combined with hypermnemonic strategies I outlined before.
I still use Anki flashcard software from http://ankisrs.net/, which is still free btw. But I don't use it to make flashcards anymore since I had some bad experiences with it in that regard. Instead I use Anki to learn from other people's flashcards as it has a massive shared database of every subject.
Further related to that is http://www.flashcardexchange.com/; they have a paid subscription section to access their flashcards offline, but you don't need it. They are a great resource for learning about anything too.
Finally the program I use to make my own flashcards now (since it's so streamlined and simple and doesn't mass delete my flashcards by the hundreds like Anki did) is Fresh Memory http://sourceforge.net/projects/freshmemory/. It's a fast, free, and simple flashcard software that even has the timed learning features of Anki (the easier something is to remember for you, the longer it takes for you to see that card again in your sessions). Truly an awesome piece of 'ware.
This passed weekend I used Fresh Memory and my mnemonic skills to memorize a couple thousand flash cards worth of data, so I can attest to this technique's efficacy personally.
I hope this helps anybody. Enjoy! _________________

What kind of biology? I may have some flashcards for Fresh Memory that can help. _________________

Ah well a great method with highschool biology textbooks is to grab the glossary out of the back and make a flashcard for each word and each definition on the other side. I still do this with my university textbooks sometimes. _________________

Guys
What are the best books / programs / techniques you could use to improve your reading and comprehension skills especially improving reading speed ?
Does brain entrainment or hypnosis have any noticeable change ? |
