A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?"

Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us."

And God said, "No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.

And it was a good animal.

And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."

And God said, "No problem. Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.

And they were comforted.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was content and wagged his tail. After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well."

And God said, "No problem! I will create for them a companion who will be with them forever and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.

And Adam and Eve learned humility.

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn't give a @#$% one way or the other.

When you read DOG backward, see what it is. That's why dog becomes man's best friend...of all the animals in the planet. But dog also is very horny it's the only animal that you can see to have sex in the street.

Great joke Mr Green Tea! Thanks for that. Wink Saved it, and passing it on.

What I have learnt from the previous Cats in my life...hmmm...

Humility, to just "be", understanding, unconditional love, that I have been chosen by the Cats to be their Human, compassion, that I am worthy of their love. One cannot TELL a Cat what to do. One can request, but, the decision is still entirely up to the Cat. And, the Cat will always decide to do what is in it's best interests. Also, a sense of detachment. Cats will do something because they want to do something, not because it is expected of them. Cats are of themselves. But, at the same time, one is extremely remiss if one does not do the best for their Cat, as the Cat deserves the best that one can afford. The best food, the best healthcare. Remember, the Cat has chosen to be with us humans.

Dogs are, sorry to say, needy. They need to be needed. Ewww. Rolling Eyes

I can always tell what a person is like by the companion animal that chooses them. [And, horse-people are another breed of Human entirely. And, then there are those of us who like Cats, and Horses, and know that Dogs are necessary for security (and rounding up sheep etc). But, I digress] Cool

And, ahh, why would the Cat give a f&*k either eh? Laughing

From The Macquarie Dictionary Second Edition 1992 page 1479
reflection n
1. The act of reflecting
2. the state of being reflected
3. an image; representation; counterpart
4. a fixing of the thoughts on something; careful consideration.
5. a thought occurring in consideration or meditation
6. an unfavourable remark or observation
7. the casting of some imputation or reproach.

When in doubt, (have the humility to) crack open a dictionary. Cool It aint gunna kill ya. (oh hang on, death to a bit of Ego Shocked )

I disagree.

I have had 2 cats and 3 dogs. My last dog was a stray. A Collie no less, and had seen him in a neighboring town, locked away in a back yard. While I felt sorry for him, I didn't think too much more about it. Apparently he got fed up with this treatment, and broke free. I didn't see him for a while, but one day he showed up in my back yard. He smiled at me, and that was all she wrote. I was smitten. I hugged him and "invited him to be my dog" which he graciously accepted. I am not absolutely positive, but I get the distinct impression he was auditioning for the role around the neighborhood. He was a very good dog, and I was devastated when he died.

He chose to be with me, and I don't think I every would have gone out to get a dog on my own, much less a Collie. He changed my mind, and if I ever get another dog, it will most certainly be a Collie. The point being is that I probably needed him, much more than he needed me [not excluding the fact that a warm bed, mostly human food, and shelter in exchange for "just being there" and belly rubs is a pretty good deal].

I don't know about your characterization of cats. Mine were not that independent. They seemed to like hanging out with me; if I were lounging on the couch, they could be counted on to jump up and lounge on me, and if I were reading in a chair, cat-company on the armrest, and my bed was their bed most nights.

One thing both beasts have in common is The Look. Every pet owner in existence knows what I'm talking about. You got food. You're eating that food. Along comes Pet. Stops to look at you eating food. Then you get The Look. The Look says "I Just Know You're Going To Give Me Some. I'm Your Dog/Cat/Warm Furry Mammal. I'm Starving! DON'T YOU LOVE ME? I MUST HAVE WHAT YOU'RE SO SELFISHY SCARFING DOWN!"

And you relent.

And the tidbit never even hits the floor. They catch it, mid-flight.

And then it starts all over again.

"DON'T YOU LOVE ME? I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE GOING TO EAT THAT WHOLE THING BY YOURSELF" etc, etc, accompanied by The Look Sometimes,, just to escape, I'd eat dinner in the closet...

You always disagree with everything I say/post. (Even when I am giving you a compliment or thanking you in some way for some information you posted) I do think that we have a Karmic "thing" that someone needs to resolve.

Am I not allowed my own opinion here?? Confused

And, now we have the personal story to affirm the intent of the thread. I am not posting my experiences with being owned by cats, because I do know that you don't give a shit. Wink

I post that it was a great joke that you posted, I give my opinions of the attributes of Cats compared to Dogs, and you jump on me. (Because you are right, and no-one else can ever have an opinion) Jesus bloody Christ. No wonder I haven't been frequenting here. I deserve to be treated with respect. Why? Because, I do deserve to be treated with respect. I treat you with respect, and you jump on me. Rolling Eyes

I was brought up to say "thankyou" when someone does something of value. Oh well, it's your loss. (Not that you would think it would be) I'll just leach off posters' information if they are going to be ungrateful and abusive of my energy of gratitude. I deserve more and deserve to be treated better, thanks.
