Speaking
NLP book for beginner?

PostPosted: Tue Nov 29, 2005 1:35 am    Post subject: Speaking Reply with quote

Hi all. I find myself not a good speaker. I get insecure and often unconscious (lose concentration for example)
in front of people. I'd like to hear about any and every thing that could help me to be an excellent speaker.
Please don't hesiate to talk about anything even if small. Thanks in advance.

Hi

There are numerous ways to improve speaking. One simple but very effective method is to look in a mirror while talking on the phone and to actually watch yourself talking. Doing this simple little thing, actually looking at how you look when you speak, can yield great insights and build confidence.

I've kind of been in that boat myself. Something I would recommend are subliminal CDs. Xtrememind CDs are good for particular purposes, but I would advise looking on ebay as there are CDs specifically for Public Speaking which would address that specific issue only. These CDs should work both for public speaking and one to one conversation.

For anyone uncomfortable with the sound of their voice, a good thing to do is to tape your voice and play it back. How your voice sounds from inside your own skull is different to how it sounds to other people. I have come across people who tell me they don't like the sound of their voice, and I notice they usually talk in a nasal way. Projecting your voice from the back of the throat is the best way to speak. Chi breathing and meditation humming OM mantra from deep in your throat should sort this.

Hope this helps.
