Anyone from NYC?
I go to New York in a couple of days, do you know how can I go from Newark airport to Manhattan East Side/Yorkville, is there a train or bus that directly goes there? How much cost a transfert?
I searched the net the info but I got confused, it doesnt look like the stuff we have here where most large european airport are connected to a metro/subway network.
Help will be very appreciated, Tortue |

I believe you can take the Airtrain to the PATH trains, which in turn will take you to NYC. You'll have to check with the Airtrain to make sure you can connect. I used to live in this area, but it's been years, the PATH trains to NYC leave from Jersey City, NJ.

as far as i remember, the path train leaves you off downtown or lower midtown (34th st).
you would then take an east side subway, like the #6 train (lexington ave local) to the upper east side. see if the path stops near that train, once you take a west side train you are hard pressed to get cross town on the subway (dont do it at times square, it is a lot of underground walking, a bit hectic and confusing)
where exactly are you going?
the subway is $2 per ride, i believe, you would get a metro card at any train station.
i grew up in ny and left 10 yrs ago for the country but miss it still.
have fun!

Hi, thanks you guys for the information.
I go at some place around the 95th street, I found the metro station is 'Fort Hamilton' on line R. I will manage to get a map of the subway network. _________________ Be High On Happiness http://www.highonbliss.com

tortue, that is in brooklyn!!
very far from manhattan (which is what is considered nyc). there is nothing interesting out there...nothing to do.
it will take you about 45 minutes to get there from downtown manhattan, i think.
may i ask why you are going there??
peace

Hi Shakti,
According to the map the place I will be is near central park , I can see Jewih Museum near the street, I think there is a place called fort Hamilton in Brooklyn but this is not where I go . According to this webpage , the subway station is called ft Hamilton http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/stations?216:446 ?
I go to NYC to discuss a distribution deal with a company based in Manhattan (Broadway) , this is for my family business they sell cosmetics. _________________ Be High On Happiness http://www.highonbliss.com

what is the exact address...the r only goes to 95th in bklyn, it doesnt go above 59th st in manhattan, it goes to queens. if you are near central park on 95th st is it west side or east side? the # 6 will take ou east, the 1 or maybe d take you west
the map is of the bklyn station.

Thanks Shakti for the clarification, the place is at
# East 92nd Street
# New York, New York 10128
Now, I see on another map the R line doesnt go there I thought I could take the subway to the 95th street near by., very confusing
I might end up taking a taxi. _________________ Be High On Happiness http://www.highonbliss.com

take the #6 to 96th st and walk down a few blocks. taxi will cost mucho $$.
find out what avenues its between. the 6 stops on lexington. on the east side it goes from central park as follows: 5th, madison ,park, lexington 3rd, 2nd 1st, york. the most you will have to walk is 10 minutes from the 96th st stop.
glad youre not going to bklyn
have a great time!

I agree with taking a taxi, I used to hang out in Manhattan and the independant subways in that town are SO CONFUSING. Take the PATH to 33rd and then hop in a taxi for the rest of the ride, to 92nd.
On a nice sunny day....it's a great walk from 33rd to to central park. I used to love doing that. Broadway is a fun street to travel up and down in Manhattan.
Have a nice trip!

1 last tip:
take the path to 9th street. that puts you on the north end of greenwich village, a more interesting neighborhood than midtown. find out which way 8th st is and walk to it. that is south. at 8th st turn left (east) and walk east along 8th street a few blocks towards astor place (i think 8th turns into astor place) where you will get the # 6 train. i love astor place make sure you enter the station that says uptown. go to 96th.
a taxi will take a long time if its during the day. at nite though you are better off on the taxi.
have fun!
