I did some Shotokan Karate when I was a kid, then some Tae Kwan Do. I was interested in Kempo for awhile, now it's mostly real styles that can be used effectively in real battle that have caught my interest.
Krav Maga, Kyokushin Karate, and Systema to name a few. I've also been looking pretty deeply into Okinawan Jigen-Ryu kenjutsu although info on it is hard to come by. _________________

You should keep your eye's on this website, they have an item coming out called "combative edge", which will give someone an edge in a real fight. I would imagine anyone interested in martial arts would love this pendant or ring.
If you scroll half way down the page you can read about it:

Internal is the way to go in my opinion.
Had a mate who did internal kung fu, yi shin tao (i think). He got up to the stage where he can control chi so that pain doesn't affect him. Once he slipped and smacked his head on concrete, he just got up and did some heavy breathing and was back to normal. Another time he was real pissed and bashed his head against the wall real hard and nothing happened to him.
I attended a buk fu do kung fu (sorry real bad at these names) session and the master had a massive aura. I suspected he had a lot of internal conditioning sure enough he confirmed this after winding a student by poking a finger into his chest.
Akidio is also another one to look at but the internal teachings are largely dependent on the master - but you'll have to learn how to use a sword (who carries a sword around these days?). |

Combat ring sounds interesting. I'll try it out but I won't stop the real training either. That's the best part! |

I've been trying to see which of DP's items might work best with a "combat sport" like martial arts or SCA fighting. At first I was looking between APE (for overall effects) or Combative Edge (which seemed like it might have a drawback of actually trying to harm your opponent).
More recently, the "Efficiency" item might have promise, at least for improving one's form and speed. |

There have been many threads on the Dale Power items, you need to do a few searches. I have the APE, the IPF and the Lucid Dream ring and like them all. I've put up many posts on these items already. Dale's products are worth the money, and besides you get a 60 test period, if you don't like them, send them back for a full refund.

I´ve been practicing Shotokan Karate for 12 years and still do it an a regular basis to keep up my technique. I´ve tried Kuk Sool Won (Hap Ki Do) for a year and done kickboxing irregularly. But since 2 years now I do Wing Tsun Kung Fu, which is what I actually find superior.
Maybe you take a look here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glv1xm8Vk8g
It´s not a sport but pure self defense, therefore there are no beautiful techniques to be seen.
This one is a bit better to watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl7lFIjzw90
Although it desn´t really give a good picture of what is being trained. (No competition; eye gauges, kicks to the knees, throat and groin ect.) Actually the 2nd vid is gettig interesting after 1 minute approx.
I love it! |

The comic nerd in me recently dug out The Batman Handbook: The Ultimate Training Manual.
In it, it lists that even though Batman's mastered like 127 martial arts, the ten most deadly are as follows:
Aikido: Which according to much criticism I've read, isn't worth beans in a real fight.
Boxing: This one I agree with, Bruce Lee constantly jabbered about the importance of footwork. Not only that, but boxer's stamina, and durability are virtually second to none. Plus throwing a proper punch is a skill most people lack.
Capoeira: I was skeptical of this being useful to Batman, until I saw Andre Gusmao.
Hapkido: As far as self defense or helping control your position in a fight it might be okay, but my knowledge of it is too limited outside of "Traditional Martial Arts suck in a real fight" that you see on many martial arts forums.
Judo: Judo doesn't seem like it'd be all that useful by itself per se, which is I guess why many UFC'ers use it in conjunction with other disciplines. It has it's place though.
Jiu Jitsu: Jiu Jitsu, traditional or Brazilian, seems to be in a similar place to Judo, useful in a bar fight with a layman, not worth much by itself when going up against a real warrior.
Karate: Generally I think the benefits in karate and most other martial arts stem namely from the physical conditioning they give you, except for Kyokushin Kai, combining brutal training with the effective moves of the legendary Mas Oyama and you have a brutal combination.
Krav Maga: Made for fighting in real world war zones and taking down your opponents as quickly and completely as possible, I can see that being useful in a real fight.
Kung-Fu: Outside of point sparring and some fancy looking moves, I think that kung-fu is relatively useless in actual fights/UFC type stuff. Mostly because of the McDojo phenomenon and the fact that most traditional kung-fu schools didn't focus heavily on physical training till Bruce Lee came along.
Savate: My knowledge as to its effectiveness is non-existant so I'll leave that to someone else.
Then there's this article I found on Cracked.com, which has some cool insights. Then there's the Russian art Systema for crushing organs. Anyone else have any thoughts as to which arts are the most butt-kicking-est? _________________
