Hey guys, I might sound out of place from a person in my mid 30s, but I have to admit one habit. I am a die hard gamer.

If any of you are also gamers I would like to hear which are your best games and why : awesome graphics, realism, good plots, controls, etc.

Does any of you have a special gaming machine, with top end motherboards, PCI Express video cards and the latest physics video card add on, blazing DDR3 RAM, Ultimate gaming CPUs that are hard to find? Anyone planing to invest in the latest 1TB hard drives that have come out of the Hitachi stable?

Some of my most recent gaming experiences, which I consider good:

1) Colin Mcrae Dirt
2) silent hunter 3 ( 4 is too bug infested)
3) Bioshock
4) Hitman ( all 4 of them)
5) Gunship
6) Enemy Engaged
7) Richard Burns Rally
Cool

Superbike 2k1
9) SWAT 4
10) Il-52
etc. etc

And I admit, I do use cheat codes at times. Smile

Also, I am a great fan of SIMs games, have almost all of them in every genre: aviation based, racing cars/bikes, etc

Vampire - The Masquerade Bloodlines
Insanely good game
but engine prone to problems, the company closed before they could of fixed everything.
But just the gameplay makes up for that by far, also fans have created their own patches to fix the problems.

Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars posed some nice strategy squabbles with friends. Great thing is, you can get by with a GeForce 7900GT

I'm saving up for the GeForce 9900GT in dual mode. Virtually future-proofed for the next year.

Yeah, it really pinches the pocket when one has to constantly upgrade for a few games.

Has anyone played GRAW. I can't play the game simply because it requires a very, very high end video card. I didn't realise that my present GeForce is so under rated.

Leroy, you don't need to save up:). You got cash spilling out of your pockets. I might get lucky if you drop some on the streets.

I am playing Resident Evil. I found Operation Flashpoint hard to crack. This is a tough game. Cheat codes don't work either.

For a 40 year old, Im the odd guy who still collects PC/PS2/Wii/XBox360.

I've given up on PC games though. Upgrading is a painful requisite every 6 months! Imagine, for GRAW, I had to purchase two SLI enabled geForce cards that set me back $800!

I stick with my Xbox360 now.

Simulations.

Mechwarrior, everything from The Cresent Hawk's Inception to Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries.

Flight Sims. favorites were JetFighter 1, 2, 3, especially 1 with the submarine aircraft carrier. It drove me crazy trying to figure out where the enemy Migs were were coming from. That of course led to EF2000 and Jane's Longbow. I rather liked Flight of the Old Dog, but more as a book than as a simulation, for the same reason the submarine sims. They were a bit too complex for one person.

Probably what got me started in sims were the old Elite space sims, played on ancient C64's. The thing about it though was as crude as the graphics were, they were extremely immersing and engaging. Better graphics didn't "improve" the game, and often made it worse. I often think that the crude graphics forced more of your imagination into the picture. It was the gameplay that it compelling however. I remember playing the wireframe-graphics version of Microprose' F-15. I'd be on the PC for hours at a time (well nothing new there!), as I swept the skies clear of MiGs.

And yes I did upgrade. From a Kapro-64 (z-80 processor, 64K of memory, dual 5" floppies, built-in 300 baud modem, built-in 9" green phosphor monitor, CP/M Operating System) to my multihost 10/100/1000 ethernet network (currently logged on to my secondary workstation: AMD 64 x2 dualCore 4200+, 2gb RAM, 1.1Tb Storage Array, dual 17' potential spam flat panel displays,
WinNT 5.1.2600.

Course all this housepower does help running more processor-intensive games, but I always try to get games that are at least a generation behind the hardware. That way the game can almost always be run in full pull-out-all-the-stops graphics mode without a performance hit.

That brings up the problem of finding truly compelling games to play. I've shifted from sims to wargames. I'm honest enough with myself to know that I'd be an online junkie if I were to ever tryout Everquest or Warcraft, so those types of games are out. Mechwarrior was bad enough. Not only did I upgrade the box, but wasn't satisfied until I had various Sitek X-series controllers, and those things can set you back a pretty penny. Don't get me started on those bittersweet days as a Madcat pilot.

Where was I?

Oh yeah. So I've switched to wargames, 2 actually. Rise of Nations, and Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends. I like the demo, because I can try different starting conditions and watch how I play to see errors more clearly. It's fairly educational to see myself think, watch what assumptions I make about what is playing out.

Games are good for that.

I loved the horror games, particularly Alone in the Dark 1 to 4. Give me a 3D 3rd person player and I can skip breakfast to dinner all day just to play.

Can't understand why countertrike got so popular- my eyes swam like nuts in those games

Green Tea, what do you do with twin LCDs, unless you are doing movie or graphics editing.

I thoroughly enjoyed some of Janes games like Jane's Longbow. There was an F-15 version also from Janes.

I got hold of an oldie ' The Thing'. I am still trying to figure out the basics.

Besides some levels of Operation Flashpoint Gold - red hammer are beyond me. Its very tough and no cheat codes that work.

On my screen is also a rather dull game : Line of Sight - Vietnam. Horrible!

I'll probably try out FEAR - Extraction Point once again.
