A girlfriend of me is christian in a good sense...really living out of her heart and not telling other people what to do and not to do...She's quite inspirational so to say. One of her friends has what he calls 'seeing the light' and he is full from the Holy Ghost, so to say. I am really sceptic so to say, but this guy is so happy and full of love that there is definitely something in this. what do you people think of these things? I know that there is a lot of debate about christians, but these people are different..

looks like some sort of enlightment. Enlightment can come to many people in many different names, for christians maybe in the form of the holy gost, for buddhists it's Nirvana.

I think we can all agree on the fact that every enlightment experience in all the holy books have the same symptons.

Its all the same present but people wrap it up in different packaging.

I'm going to bookmark this to read later, but maybe if you get around to it first you can tell me what you think of it:

"Secret Fire: The Relationship Between Kundalini, Kabbalah, and Alchemy
by Mark Stavish, M.A."

The thing that had me looking for it was that I have read the opinion in several places that receiving the Holy Spirit is the same as working with Kundalini. It seems like an interesting possibility.

I agree with the above posts that refer to similar experiences being described in different doctrines.

I think it's good to keep an open mind when considering these topics. Wink

I am not a big fan of organized religion. In fact, I considerer most, if not all, all major religions to be,.. well,.. not my thing. Dogma at best, downright oppression at worst.
BUT. I have learned that to judge a person solely by his beliefs is the worst mistake you can make. For example: Jehovah's witness is about as far from my system of beliefs that you can imagine. Yet I have seen persons with this faith that were very old, very advanced souls. Beyond me anyway. They were just brought up that way.

The thing is, what seems to matter is how you deal and cope with the cultural surroundings you were brought up with. If you view, use and deal with it in an uplifting, constructive and positive way, you know what it is really about, despite your religion/faith/whatever.

dump the religious aspects that oppress you and prevent happiness. But feel free to retain tenets and doctrines that enhance your life.

Like unconditional love. Forgiveness. Aspiration for higher goals.

The Catholic Church hates "cafeteria theology", which is essentially 'choosing teachings what suits you well'. They want you to accept everything!

Now that's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. Until Benedict recants that, the church will continue to falter, founder and fail

JC,
The best thing to do is to get to know them better. I do not doubt that "seeing the light" can be gotten by some people, but when it comes to christians you might want to be very careful what you think of them. I've been with some people that seem really "enlightened", who are envolved in christian religions and they all show their dark side eventually, which is to say their "good side" was just a front, and what's you're seeing is just someone who's a great actor.

I supposed there could be really great christians out there somewhere....I'm just saying be cautious.

Christians aren't so bad. I let one take me to church a few times. It was just too boring with too much emphasise on donating.

Of all the christian sects, the roman catholic service has gotta be the driest. All ritual, memorized phrases, structured progression and whatnot.

You'd drop asleep in seconds.

But the Pentecostals. Now they're different. It's like attending a Tony Robbins workshop!

The mass depends entirely on the person holding it
I know both types the ones who are alive but others are as you've pointed out boring as hell

(I'm talking about roman catholic mass in (europe) switzerland dunno how they are holding it in america but I think differently)

Are they holding the latin masses in Europe? Or vernacular? For me one of the best results of Vatican II was to translate the mass into the vernacular.

Although some priests still want to bring back the dubious glory of Latin service
