I'd like to personally discount damn near everything said in this topic so far. I am a girl, and I definitely like boys (have been with my current boyfriend for over a year now), and they tend to like me. The above quote depresses and insults me because it is woefully inaccurate, as I've never cheated on anyone -- as well as unbelievably condescending. besides which, the whole thread is full of inaccuracies. Let me help you out.
Playing with things on the table, for example, is just as likely to be a sign of trying to avoid a creepy guy's eyes and focus on something else in order to pass the time until a rescue comes. As for crossing my legs, I do it the same way every time. While tapping/rocking the foot (for those who do it, including myself) is indeed an unconscious act, it doesn't signify attraction: I went to an all-girl high school, am definitely straight, and would frequently do this in class. As for "showing the palm of her hand to you", that one seems patently ludicrous. Finally, the ones about licking her lips and winking at you are indeed definite signs of attraction (or that she's mocking you), but most girls would feel silly and theatrical actually doing such things.
Part of the trouble is that there IS no "secret code" of attraction that you can decipher. I hate to let you down, but it really does vary from girl to girl. If you're in a bar, there is a certain type of etiquette, but in daily life it's far better to be friends first.
Finally, as to friendship being a trap... most guys I'm attracted to are my friends already, or else are people I haven't met and just good-looking. If you're looking for a one-night stand, sure, you probably won't get that with a friend because of the awkwardness factor. But for any sort of sustained thing (consistent nookie, if you will), friendship is generally a plus for you, rather than a non-attraction dead zone. If you share no interests, she won't want to hang out with you... cutting off any hope of future relations, sexual or otherwise. |

Uh, the above quote refers to the man's self-control, not the woman's. It is an attempt at humor that eluded you. Usually, the man has less self-control than the woman in an initial meeting, and that quote was just playing on that fact.
A lot of the so-called body language signs of a girl's interest have been in books as long as I can remember. These signs have been proven in psychological experiments to be true for a enough girls to have some degree of proportionality. You, however, are correct, it does not mean they apply to every girl, including you, and there is no secret code that applies to every girl, as we are all psychologically wired differently.
And in regards to girls that are friends, I have had such a wide range of relationships with them that there is no hard and fast rule. Some really want to be just friends and some become friends with the hope that something more serious will develop. |
